Medi-Cal Diabetic Supplies

Diabetic testing supplies that are covered by Medi-Cal are available to you at little or no-cost depending on your plans with Medi-Cal and other benefits you might have. Also known as the California Medical Assistance Program, Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid, covering a broad spectrum of Californian's in need. This includes low-income families, certain low income adults, seniors, those with disabilities, pregnant women and foster care children.

Medi-Cal & Medicare

Medi-Cal can be your primary plan or is secondary to Medicare if you have any of those plans. This means whatever Medicare does not cover can roll over to Medi-Cal. The relationship on how this works can depend on your situation and has updated over the years. Those that qualify for both Medicaid or Medi-Cal and Medicare are known as dual eligibles or Medi-Medis.

Prescription Drugs

Medicare Part D covers prescription drugs and therefore if you have this plan, it will override Medi-Cal unless you are taking certain drugs not covered by Medicare. This includes Benzodiazepines that comprise drugs like Xanax and Valium. These are typically used to treat insomnia and anxiety complications. Also Barbiturates, weight loss or gain drugs, vitamins and various other drugs not covered by Medicare will roll over to your Medi-Cal plan.

Medi-Cal also Covers

Medi-Cal coverage is based on using providers that accept Medi-Cal and if you are covered by Medicare. Many times Medicare acts as the primary, but in the case of long term care in a nursing home, you will use Medi-Cal. This is also true of certain at home services like In-Home Supportive Services for long term care.
